Most Important
The most important single thing you can do to prepare for any catastrophic event to insure your chances of ability to survive during and afterwards is to get your a$$ in shape.
No matter how old or what shape you ar presently in you can improve this. When you can run a mile flat out in the wet sand of the beach than you can begin to relax knowing you have taking at least some of your destiny into your own hands. Remember the predators are already there. Get in shape. |
Re: Most Important
Good topic I agree. Also being in shape is just better. Makes everything easier like moving furniture for example.
It's not really that hard either. You don't need any fancy equipment or gym membership. You just have to go do it and build up the intensity over time. |

I take a mile walk every day and do yoga every morning. Its feels great to be in shape. If everyone did a little walking they would be surprised how much better they felt.

Re: Most Important
If you have trouble with running, no matter your age, I would suggest the book Running and Breathing. When I was 20 I was running consistently about 5 miles a day, but I fell out of the habit when I started working fulltime. For the last several years I had been trying to get back into it, but I was having a lot of trouble with the joints in my legs (somethimes a knee, sometimes an ankle, and sometimes a hip) and I'm only frickin' 30 now (to much ass time in front of the computer I guess). However, I read this book a couple of months ago, and after applying what is the book, I am now running about 4.5 miles daily with no pain at all. Further I'm breathing through my nose the entire time, 5 steps on inhilation and 10 steps on exhiliation, with no huffing and puffing. I never would have thought that part was possible, but doing is believing.
